Achim Heukemes started running when he was in his 30s and initially used the time he spent waiting on the road as a long-distance lorry driver to train. A few years later, he quit his job and became one of the few professional ultramarathon runners.
Achim has become a 10x Ironman Masters World Champion, a Duathlon World Champion, and a Vice World Champion in the 24-Hour Time Trial. He has won 12 medals in ultra disciplines in 5 years. In 2011, the extreme athlete crossed the USA twice. He cycled from New York to San Diego. He got off the bike and ran back. It took him just 79 days to cover the 6800 miles (10,943.54 km), and he arrived back in New York on his 60th birthday.
Success in sports and business have a lot in common. “You have to believe in yourself and know that you can do what you set out to. Then you need a strong will and a goal you wish to achieve. Then it’s a matter of consistently pursuing that goal,” says Achim.
