Busy Mornings? Overnight Oats Got Your Back!

overnight oats

The easy-to-make overnight oats are one of our favorites for a quick and healthy breakfast. This nutrient-dense breakfast is a good option for anyone – whether you’re trying to eat healthier, trying to lose weight, or want to save time in the morning, overnight oats are your best bet.

Oats are considered one of the healthiest grains there are in the world. While low in calories, oats are a great source of vitamin B1 and B5, and minerals such as magnesium, copper, iron, and zinc, to name a few. Oats also provide lots of protein and fiber, keeping you full for longer and promoting healthy gut bacteria.

How to make overnight oats

While oats in their most intact form take a long time to cook, most people opt for slightly processed oats, for example, rolled or instant oats. However, we want them to soak them overnight and not cook them. So, all you need for a basic overnight-oats recipe is – yes, you guessed it right – oats and water or milk. And it’s all about the ratios. The most common and recommended ratio is one part oats, one part water, or milk (this can be any milk you like). Feel free to add more or use less water/milk until you find what works for you. There is no right or wrong. ?

Once you find your perfect ratio, you can combine and add whatever your heart desires – seeds, fruits, toppings… you name it!

Combine your oats and water or milk in a mason jar or glass cups, seal or cover with a lid, and leave in the fridge overnight (or at least for a few hours).

Feel free to add fresh fruits or your favorite toppings in the morning, or enjoy the oats plain.

Tips for making overnight oats

  1. Prepare your oats in a jar/mason jar. This way, you can easily combine your oats with other ingredients, mix, chill, and eat your overnight oats anywhere you go.
  2. Use plain rolled oats, not quick oats. Quick oats will get too soggy, not delivering the desired consistency.
  3. If you prefer warm oats, you can warm up the overnight oats. They are typically served cold, but you can eat them warm. Just make sure you use a microwave-safe jar. ?
  4. You can meal-prep for the week. Overnight oats can stay good in the fridge for up to 5 days, making it a quick, convenient, and healthy meal-prep option.

Besides their many health benefits, overnight oats are easy to prepare, the essential ingredients are always available at the stores, and you can combine oats with almost everything!
